RETRO ROOMS

A look at rooms in the house from various time periods

Living Room

This is a picture from 1969. The ceiling tile is different and there is no paneling. The most unusual thing is that this is one of the few pictures I have been able to find where the window on the side wall still exists (this is cited as wall 1 in the living room section.) (Mom) This picture is from 1970. It is hard to tell, but there is a textured brick wall paper going up the staircase. It is one of the few I found. (Dad) This picture is from 1972. The wallpaper is still up (the light paneling comes a few years later). This pictures is pre-shag carpet. I think my chair is the best piece of furniture in the room :)

Dining Room

The Dining Room in 1974. The furniture remained until 2002, but the wallpaper only lasted a couple more years. Here is the room in 1976. The light brown paneling has been added. Also notice the half wall which leads into the kitchen.

Kitchen

The kitchen in 1969. Here you can see the old window treatments as well as the brown paneling between the cabinets and appliances. This picture is from 1971. The archway is different as is the wallpaper surrounding it. There is also a storage cabinet on the near wall. That's me sporting my Star Wars PJ's in 1978. Here you see a good look at the tile floor. Note also the breakfast table and chairs in the kitchen. That's Dad in 1982. The window treatment has changed. Here you also get the best look at the multicolored paneling. The ceiling tiles, light fixture and clock have all been replaced over time.

Master Bedroom

This is one of the few pictures I have been able to find of this room so far. It is from 1969.

Main Bathroom

These are not the best pictures but they will do. The picture on the left is from 1976 and the one on the right is from 1986. I put them up specifically to look at the wall paper.

The Most Multi Purpose Room In The House
(In 2002, It's My Office)

This was our play room growing up. Here is the best look at the carpet and shutters back in 1974. That is Kris with her Betty Crocker playset. In 1984, the room hadn't change much except that the old living room furniture made it's way to our play room. That's me playing the Atari 2600. Here is another view of the room in the 80's. Notice the book shelves and rabbit ears on the television. In the lower left hand corner is the Commodore 64 Computer System. By the 90's, mom took back the room and began to make it her office. At least the computer system is up to date even if the paneling isn't.

The Basement

The basement did not change all that much until the earlier 90's. Here are a few pictures from Kristy's 16th Birthday which show the basement the way it was through out our childhood. These are also probably the only pictures of the air hockey and ping pong tables. Also notice for decor, the many puzzles that were assembled and mounted to the walls

House Exterior

This is Kris and Me having fun in the snow in 1973. This picture shows the old wooden fence that used to surround the property. There is a lot going on in this picture from 1969. First, I didn't realize my parents had a pool back then. Actually the interesting things are that the shopping center across the street is barely developed at this time. There is also only the metal fence surrounding the property. The trees and green and white fence have yet to be installed. Another 1973 moment. The old sandbox created hours of enjoyment (although I don't look to happy in this picture.) The sand box is long gone but at least the other privacy fence is installed.

Second Floor Tiles

When the old shag carpet cam up, we found these old tiles under it. The tiles must have been installed forty years ago.
