Buddy Boys: The Franchise is a three disc set that packages every bit of the legacy know as Buddy Boys: The Movie. There is a nice blend of the classic films, previously released specials, restored specials and a few new never before seen items.
Disc 1
The first disc of this special has been dedicated solely to the first film
and the events that led to its creation. The first track of this disc is a
re-mastered version of the original theatrical release of the film which was
in circulation from 1991 - 1994. This version of the film was the essential
selling point of creating a special edition DVD because it represents the
first film project of Golden Roll Productions. Since the production was going
to be persevered on disc, many other features were also resurrected and arranged
to provide ample subject matter for this DVD.
The second track on disc 1 is the classic bloopers tape from the film. These
bloopers were first viewed at the world premiere to the suprise of the cast,
crew and invited guests. Since then, these bloopers have been attached to
the various versions and releases of the film. The irony is that some of the
bloopers were from scenes cut in later versions of the film and scenes ommitted
all together but now make some sense when viewed in proximity to this version
of the film.
The third track of disc 1 is the re-issue of the music video package. This
video was originally released on December 25, 1991. It is a collection of
clips from the film laid down to some of the best music in the film.
The showcase video for the Bandits uses a song from Pseudo Echo entitled "Love An Adventure" (Later the music of Pseudo Echo was the inspiration for Golden Roll Production's drama "Searching For A Glory"). This video basically uses only scenes from the film. However some of the films bloopers and reverse angles are incorporated into the video to give the rough Bandits a softer look.
Probably the best video in the collection is "Never Say Die" a song performed by Bon Jovi. This song is another reference to the Young Guns films. At one point you can even see Bill Shute acting along with the words in the song. This video is the showcase for the T.P. Gang. There is a good amount of film shots, but there are plenty of bloopers and never before scene footage shots from the original test shoots from the 1990 writing session which appear here.
One of the most popular scenes from the film was re-released here. The entire desert sequence is the highlight of the collection. One of the reasons for the success of the scene is the utilization of the entire cast.
The extended car chase featuring "Only The Strong Survive" by Bryan Adams was an attempt to convert movie footage to concert footage of Adams. The concept was a good idea, however the concert footage didn't match correctly and looked out of place.
The final video in this collection is billed as the "Original T.P. Video". If the film gave away all of the T.P. Gangs' secrets, then this video shows how to apply those secrets in a practical TP experience. This video shows actual footage of the T.P. Gang "at work".
The fourth track
on the disc is "The
Creation of The Desert Sequence." This piece is a documentary which
utilizes a lot of the original footage shot during the writing sessions of
1990. The piece features special features as it gives you a behind the scenes
look at the car chase and diner scenes as well.
The fifth track of disc 1 is a short five minute clip produced in the snow.
Bill Shute
created a "TP" symbol and roll of TP out of snow. Being influenced
by the 1989 "BATMAN" movie, an opening sequence was shot for the
purpose using it as company logo but it didn't work as well as the prodcers
hoped it would.
The sixth track is another lost treasure. In this clip Bill
Shute and Michael
W. Mowery are captured on the set for the very first time as they begin
mapping out scenes, testing camera angles and performing light tests. An inpromtu
commercial for the film was also recorded.
The seventh track on disc one is very, very special. Dubbed "The Main
Event", this 37 minute video was the inspiration for the film. This is
an actual clip of Joe
McGroarty, Bill
Shute and Michael
W. Mowery TPing real houses. This footage can been seen in the
"Original TP Video" on the music video packages.
The final track of disc one is another "real TPing" scene in which
the motives weren't fun but rather spite and revenge against some people.
Overall these two clips provide good insight to the evolution of the film.
Disc 2

Disc 2 has many special features that give GRP a more professional look and feel. The first feature is the all new sound policy for "Digital Cinema Sound". The next segment is a audio/visual test for properly setting your surround sound settings. The third segment on this disc is the re-issue of the original Golden Roll Productions policy trailer. Next up is the re-issued 3rd Year Anniversary edition of the film which was in circulation from 1994 until the first DVD release in 2001. As with most versions of the film, the Bloopers are released here as well. Next up is GRP's second policy trailer. The final track on disc 2 is the 3rd year anniversary edition again but this time with a special commentary track laid down by the T.P. Gang themselves (Joe McGroarty, Bill Shute and Michael W. Mowery)
Disc 3

Disc 3 is devoted to Buddy Boys: The Movie 2: The Search For The Golden Roll. It has been constructed very similar to Disc 2 in that all of the sound policies and company policies are included. What is new here is a special coming attraction for Golden Roll Productions awarding winning game show, "Trivia Challenge". The commerical is to promote the first season is now available on DVD. Just like disc 2, this disc gives viewers the choice of viewing the film with or without a special commentary track laid down by the T.P. Gang themselves (Joe McGroarty, Bill Shute and Michael W. Mowery). Also included is the films bloopers.
