The Couch is a variety show which has ties back to the original prime time SSUT-12 featured show "On The Air...with Dave and John." The progression works like this: "On The Air" was the late night talk show created and hosted by Dave Kilkeary in the Fall of 1994. The reigns were then passed along to Storm Bennett who renamed the show "The Really Big Show" in the Spring of 1994. Storm then remodeled the show into a entertainment style show in the Fall of 1995 calling it "The Really, Really Big Show". Kathy Piechota then took over as producer in the Spring of 1995 transforming it once again into a variety style show. The segments were introduced by the crew who were sitting around the old studio beat up couch and thus renamed "The Couch".
The Couch's short lived run will always be known for being the first program to launch the now "cult classic" Monkees video. A little know fact is that the Monkees video was originally filmed as the opening credit sequence for a planned original production that never made it passed the development stage.
