Trivia Challenge is the creation of Golden Roll Productions founder Michael W. Mowery. Produced on the campus of Salisbury State University, this is one television pilot that actually went on to become a weekly series. For Golden Roll Productions, this series was one in which they had complete control over. After the disappointing Hollywood Creations, The Really Really Big Show and with Campus Insider still in development, Golden Roll Productions finally hit the jackpot this this spriest hit.
Trivia Challenge is modeled after three of America's most popular game shows. Wheel of Fortune and the Price Is Right can be seen slightly through the program. The biggest influence however was from Jeopardy since this is a question and answer show.
SSU television personality Bill Bendelow (The Really, Really Big Show) hosts the show which features two competitors going against each other every week. The contestants compete for prizes donated by the campus community as well as trying to gain the high score for the semester. The top three high scores receive the top prizes at the end of the season. Trivia Challenge airs Friday through Tuesday at 8:30 and 11:30pm on campus cable SSU-TV12.
This special edition DVD collection was created over a couple years. The concept gained momentum after Golden Roll Production had success with other DVD release. Michael Mowery (the producer) first visited Chris Bennett (the announcer) in Atlanta, Georgia on July 19, 2004 to record audio commentary for some selected episodes. This was very ambitious of GRP as it now became the greatest distance traveled to work on a production. The good news is that a commentary track was recorded. The bad news is that only one show was recorded.
It would be 10 months later on April 30, 2005 before Bill Bendelow (the Host) would be able to make the trip from New York City to Blackwood, New Jersey to record his audio commentaries. On this day, Bill and Mike recorded commentaries for multiple episodes and special features. Mike and Bill tried very hard to actually get Chris on the phone that day but could not. Those phone calls turned out to be very funny and made it onto the disc as a special feature as well.
Michael Mowery also recorded a special commentary on June 26, 2005. This was a strictly technical commentary on the creation of the show. It is something that he had wanted to do with the feature films but never had the opportunity until this package came about.
This package presents Trivia Challenge with the most up to date software the company has to offer. Most post production is now completed using computer software. This collection now features interactive menus as opposed to the slates that appeared on other releases of this show.
