Today's adventure was Midnight Madness! (Blackwood, Grenloch)

Seriously I was working on the final statistics from 2015 around 11:30pm last night and heard the local fireworks, noise markers, pans and pots and just people partying. I thought there is an opportunity here to maybe catch a firework show or two so I grabbed my bike and hit the road. The Black Horse Pike was pretty empty. I headed South and turned right onto Main Street. At the bottom of this street is the beginning of the Gloucester Township Health and Wellness Trail. I entered the trail and took it the .3 miles to Woodland Avenue and my neighborhood. As I approached this street, neighbors were having a party and they were yelling Happy New Year to me on the trail. Interesting way to start the New Year

I biked around my neighborhood for a bit before heading north on the Blackhorse Pike. When I got to the intersection of the Blackhorse Pike and Elaine Avenue, I finally saw fireworks. Actually three different sets of fireworks. I paused for a moment to capture the atmosphere, post a picture to Instagram and text a few family and friends. At this point I continued through Liberty Park and worked my way back to Lakeland Road. I went across the Black Horse Pike into Blackwood Estates and zig zagged around there for a bit. Parties were going on but the fireworks were done so I just headed home. An impromptu biking activity but a lot of fun.

A neighbor having a party was yelling #HappyNewYear to me as I was biking down the trail haha. Nice way to kick off the New Year!

It was colder today then it was at midnight. My instgram post says it all but I must say that I did enjoy being outside on my bike. It was long overdue.There's not much else to say about my course today except that it is places that I've been to many times before. Its the home course if you will. A good ride. Starting the New Year off on the right foot.

 

Instagram Post: (1) #HappyNewYear started off the New Year with a #MidnightMadness ride & went out #biking this morning again. 32 combined miles was a good kick start to #2016 I biked the neighborhoods within a 2-3 mile radius of my home. Colder this morning than it was at midnight. My poor bike is definitely struggling these days as I can hear the creaking, feel the loose bearing, gears not shifting right & brakes loose. The bikes been good to me and I need it to last about 6 more moths. That said, it's been a fun start to the #2016 #biking adventures! #FightForIt #FitDontQuit

Instagram Post: Today's workout was very different. I decided to change my training. The purpose is to loose the rest of the weight I wanted to before I stopped in October. That said, I began using the preloaded programs on the #recumbentbike first workout is 20 minutes and the resistance goes from 1-6 (stays between 5/6 most of the time.) To put in perspective I usually bike around a 2 when I was doing distance. So my workout was 1 mile on the #eliptical (18 min), 20 min #recumbentbike Weight Loss program 1, 1000 #abcrunches (15 min) then the #recumbentbike again & finally the #eliptical again. This is a 91 minute workout. I'm exhausted, feel like it was a better workout and took less time. I'll go back to distance #biking in the spring (doesn't mean I won't go outside and ride 30 miles) when I start seriously training for #SeaGullCentury2016 & in case you missed the earlier post, I found a pool I can swim in. I have had an urge for a while & figured this is another way to supplement my cardio work a couple days a week. #FightForIt #FitDontQuit

Instagram Post: (1) it's been a long time since I've packed a swim bag. New goggles & a new toy! A swim watch which syncs workouts to my computer, because you know I like to blog. Tomorrow morning will be my first #swimming workout Oh Boy!!! #FitDontQuit #FightForIt (2) Today was the day. I got back in the pool after about 20 years of not #swimming as a workout or competition. I didn't sink or drown so that's a plus! Within a couple hundred yards I realized why I love & hate swimming all at the same time haha. I felt pretty good all things considered. My watch tracks some cool stuff & it worked very well (Although it took a bit to get used to & that's why there is two pictures). It tracks more than I could share here but maybe next time. Now the "swimmers math debate" 1650 is known as "the mile" but in actuality 1760 yards equal a mile. For the swimming history, this is a good read https://swimswam.com/tsc-mysteries-why-is-a-swimming-mile-only-1650-yards/ For my purposes I will go with 1760 equals a mile. That means I swam 2 miles this morning. I very happy about this considering how long it's been. #FightForIt #FitDontQuit

Instagram Post: (1) Today was quite the fitness day. I started off #swimming 4000 yards. I then realized I had time before work so I pedaled 10 miles on the #recumbentbike followed by 800 #abcrunches Finally I took the #podometer to work and shockingly I did a lot more steps then yesterday just breaking the 12,000 mark (just at work). It's been a long day & im tired, sore & cramping from using muscles that I haven't in a while. Changing my cardio routine is definitely having results. #biking #FightForIt #FitDontQuit (2) A repost of my last post but with less clutter. Yesterday I had a quality day of various cardio workouts. It started with 4000 yards in the pool #swimming I then put in 10 miles on the #recumbentbike #biking 800 #abcrunches and finally 12000 steps tracked on the #podometer while at work. Tired, sore & now let's add either can't sleep or used to lack of sleep. Either way it's a non work day & my body is screaming for a rest day. This changing up the cardio routine is really paying off. I do feel like I'm getting more out of my workouts. #FitDontQuit #FightForIt

. Instagram Post: (1) This has become my #happyplace earbuds in, clear my head, rough day. Time for some #biking (2) The days I don't want to work out, are the days I have the best workouts. I #walked 10K+ steps at work. Came home and just felt a little depressed. Said to myself, I'll do a casual ride for an hour and call it a day because something is better then nothing, right? #MindOverBody takes over as I've learned #music inspires me. So I put on my iPod, shuffle on my #TheHooters playlist and 2 hours 41 minutes later I did 50 miles #biking #halfcentury and I was just zoned out on my body as my mind was occupied. Crazy thing this brain! I finished with 500 #abcrunches for good measure. Today I turned nothing into something #FightForIt #FitDontQuit

Most impressive to me is that my total time & swim time was exactly the same meaning I did this continuously. Definitely excited about that. Instagram Post: It's been 4 days since I posted an update. A lot going on so I took a bit of a social media brake. I did not however to a brake from my health commitment. In fact, it's the one constant thing I've had in my life recently. So my days go clockwise starting on Tuesday. No work day so heavy cardio with 1000 #abcrunches 2 miles on the #eliptical & 25 miles on the #recumbentbike On Wednesday 750 #abcrunches 2 miles on the #eliptical 9600 steps and 20 miles on the #recumbentbike Yesterday 800 #abcrunches 9700 steps and 25 miles on the #recumbentbike I may still do something tonight but wanted to share. Today's adventure was Snowmaggedon! (Blackwood)

It has actually been since January 1st, that I rode my bike. Work schedules and daylight had a lot to do with that but this Snowmaggedon was just to tempting not to try and ride in. Try is the key word here. I attempted to ride to #GloucesterTownshipHealthAndWellnessTrail but there wa over a foot of snow in some places. Ironically I have a mountain bike but changed the tires to hybrids so I didn't have as much friction on the road. As a result, I have zero traction in weather like this. The plus side to all of this is, biking in a blizzard was a hell of a lot of fun!
