Instagram Post: Day 1 of #tourdepines is in the books. Start and end at the Laurita Winery. Round trip was just over 50 miles. Biked through a lot of New Egypt today. First time there. Long roads, little traffic but by no means flat. Climbed to an elevation of 800 and I’m guessing that was all in the last 4 miles because that road was nothing but hills. A good ride and a new place. I may make it for Sunday’s ride but that depends on how #seagullcentury goes on Saturday #youvsyou #cycling #biking #fightforit

The Ride: Day 1 – Wednesday, October 3, 2018, NO WHINING RIDE
Start Time: 9:00 a.m. Laurita Winery (GPS: 85 Archertown Road), New Egypt NJ 08533

Rides of two distances are offered, a 43-mile loop and a 25-mile loop. Both rides start at Laurita Winery, which is located at the edge of the Pine Barrens. Scenic areas in both Ocean and Monmouth counties may be enjoyed, including many agricultural, tree and horse farms. The route passes through Colliers Mills and Assunpink Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), as well as a visit to Historic Walnford, a Monmouth County Park. Be prepared for some rolling terrain and a few steep hills! This ride crosses the Union Transportation Trail (a relatively new “rails-to-trails” that is also a part of the Monmouth County Parks System), and this trail could be a ride for another day. After your ride, stay a while to sample Laurita’s wine and enjoy the atmosphere of this unique place!

Instagram Post: (1) Let’s do this #seagullcentury (2) Last rest stop! 20 miles to go #seagullcentury (3) FINISHED!! #seagullcentury More to come .... now which way to the beer!!

The Ride: First time trying the Princess Anne course. There were times I felt great and times I felt horrible. When I was with a group and able to draft it made it much easier. Also there was motivation by keeping pace. Overall I think I did well. Its getting harder to complete but I can still do it and that is an amazing feeling.

The Ride: Day 5 – Sunday, October 7, 2018
PINELANDS ADVENTURE LOOP
Start Time: 9:00 a.m. at Pinelands Preservation Alliance, Southampton, NJ 08088

PPA opened Pinelands Adventures in 2015. This canoe/kayak livery provides greater access and educational opportunities within the Pinelands region. Rides of two distances are offered, both of which will travel past the farm fields of Southampton and Tabernacle townships. A lunch stop may be made in Tabernacle, but we recommend you eat light so that you can enjoy chili and beer, compliments of PPA when you return from your ride.

The 45-mile ride will journey through open Pinelands and make a stop at Pinelands Adventures, which is located adjacent to Atsion Lake in Wharton State Forest. An optional 8.8-mile “out and back” may be ridden to visit the Carranza Memorial. Emilio Carranza, the Lindberg of Mexico, is forever memorialized at this stone monument located in Wharton State Forest. The site is where his airplane crashed during a thunderstorm while making his attempt to complete a goodwill journey from Mexico City to New York and back again.

The 27-mile ride departs from the longer route, and rejoins it at the lunch stop in Tabernacle. Both rides will also visit additional historic sites that are described in a number of books written about the Pinelands, including the Old Sawmill and Old Indian Tavern sites.

Instagram Post: Second ride since #seagullcentury2018 a very easy 15 miles around #grenlochlake Felt good no issues except for all the damn gnats! I’m not sure the creepy clown on a lawnmower is actually “Halloween” but definitely creepy as hell. So I’m on pace to ride 3300-3500 miles on the bike in 2018. A little down in mileage from 2017 but a lot of firsts and still 3500 miles on the bike is a great accomplishment. As long as the weather holds up, I should be able to get there #youvsyou #fightforit #cycling #biking

The Ride: Just a ride to keep loose, couple laps around the lake. No frills, just a casual ride.

Instagram Post: (1) Middle of my next adventure today ... #biking #ocmd right now hitting the boardwalk (2) It’s a beach day #ocmd #cycling (3) For the second time in 6 days I went #Cycling on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Today #OCMD I biked the entire island and the boardwalk. A good 25 miles. Heavy wind at times but a fun ride and good start to the weekend. Tomorrow #homecoming Sunday a 5K on the same boardwalk. This will be an interesting weekend to say the least.

The Ride: Fun ride. Would not recommend doing this during the summer season though. Since I did this ride last year, I only concentrated (mostly) on the boardwalk for pictures. Its 9 miles, flat, and smooth. All great conditions for a ride. The boardwalk was fun. It was shorter then I remember but I was able to bike the entire thing. I really love OCMD its a great place, with great memories and wonderful scenery.

October 13, 2018

Instagram Post: I did not plan on this #biking adventure today. I had a Board of Directors meeting In the morning, then tailgating party duties before the game. It’s #Homecoming at #salisburyuniversity today so a lot of people around. I started by riding around the sports complex and that turned into biking the campus and that turned into downtown. Fun ride. Fun day. A lot of great people. #cycling #youvsyou #fightforit

The Ride: It was homecoming so a quick lap around campus. I then decided to go down to the river and do the loop of Riverside Drive back to Camden Avenue and back to campus. From there I headed down College Ave to the Zoologial Park and ended at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center (where my college graduation took place). A fun little ride that was spontaneous. These are the rides that pad the mileage totals.

Instagram Post: Well I’ve said it before #running is not my thing. Let’s say I power walked - half assed jogged - tried running at times but the important thing is that I FINISHED!! First official 5K in the books. All for a good cause supporting a friend taking from us far to soon (@robthomas_78) Today I truly #LLLR A nice sense of accomplishment. #runtheboardslikerob #ocmdboardwalk #youvsyou #fightforit

The Run: So this was a sponsored alumni event, a personal event to honor a friend and a chance to do something i've never done before. I actually worked the registration table making sure waivers were signed and then at the last minute decided to participate in the event. I enjoyed it very much. I am not a runner, but this was a good event to experiment with. Yes it was a race with an award ceremony, but it was very relaxed, no pressure and no expectations. Great day.
